The Europa League returns again, this time round; it’s a tad easier for the Home side.
Tottenham take on Dinamo Tbilisi in the second leg of the Europa Lague Group Stage Play-Offs. Spurs currently hold a 5-0 lead outer the Georgians and with the North London Derby looming, it’s evident that the game could feature a few fresh young faces.
The first leg was an entertaining affair to say the least. AVB’s side played fluid and exciting football with goals coming from a range of positions. Roberto Soldado opened his European account for The Lilywhites as well as Andros Townsend, Paulinho and Danny Rose all opening their accounts for the season.
With such a dominant performance the second leg allows some wiggle room in regard to team selection. The veteran American keeper Brad Friedel is set to return to the starting XI with the defence likely to feature Kyle Naughton and Younes Kaboul. The fixture can also allow players such as Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon return to the frame after being replaced for incoming Roberto Soldado and Andros Townsend respectively.
The last time Spurs played a second leg Play-off tie at the Lane, they could only muster up a goalless draw against Scottish side Hearts whom Spurs too beat 5-0 in the first leg. Funny how it works out hey?
I am travelling to the Lane for my first home game of the season and am excited at the prospect of a European game. Although Tottenham are looking to close out the tie and earn their place in the Group Stage, I expect there to be goal with Jermain likely to bag at least one. With Arsenal around the corner I expect Spanish superstar Roberto Soldado to start on the bench as well as new figures Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Nacer Chadli likely to sit out the game.
Spurs do not have any major injury concerns heading into the game as I expect Sandro to return as well as Lewis Holtby (whom featured and scored for the Under-21’s this week) to make the bench.
Predicted team: Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, Fryers, Naughton, Sandro, Dembélé, Lennon, Carroll, Sigurdsson, Defoe
Predicted Score: Tottenham 3-0 Dinamo Tbilisi
Predicted MOTM: Tom Carroll.
We won’t be conducting our usual Matchday Coverage as I am travelling to the Lane this Thursday. We will be providing brief buildup throughout the day. Enjoy!
