After a difficult International break recovering from our heavy derby defeat, Spurs are back against Aston Villa live on Sky Sport this Super Sunday. We have a truly impressive record against the boys from Birmingham after the last two outings to Villa Park both ending 4-0 to the LilyWhites. It feels not too long ago that we saw the boys triumph against Lambert in the Capital One Cup however this time it’s the Premier League and this time; they have Benteke.
The stats make for comfortable reading for us Spurs fans. Tottenham are unbeaten in their last nine league matches against Aston Villa (W6, D3) since a 2-1 home defeat in September 2008. Villa are winless in their last six league and cup fixtures against Spurs at Villa Park and have won only one of the last nine (in 2008). On top of this, Villa have not kept a clean sheet in their last 14 Premier League home games, conceding 25 goals in that run.
The last time we faced Villa in the Premier League was Boxing Day 2012 when we stuffed the Villains 4-0 with a Gareth Bale hatrick bring the spectacle of the day. Jermain Defoe helped himself to a goal that day with Gylfi Sigurdsson impressing for Spurs. Our previous Premier League outing before that was a comfortable 2-0 home win in at the beginning of the last league campaign which saw Steven Caulker score. The other scorer that day was Aaron Lennon who looks set to return to the squad after a long spell out with injury.
Villa boss Paul Lambert will name Christian Benteke in his starting XI as predicted by Andre Villas- Boas after the striker was named on the bench for Belgium’s World Cup qualifier against Wales on Tuesday night, following his recovery from a hip injury. For Tottenham, Roberto Soldado is expected to return after being benched for the defeat to West Ham. AVB has said it may still be a week until Etienne Capoue and Danny Rose return however Younes Kaboul and Aaron Lennon are expected to be named as subs bench this weekend. Mousa Dembélé is expected to make his 100th Premier League appearance this weekend.
Aston Villa: LLLWDD
Predicted Team: Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Naughton; Dembele, Paulinho; Townsend, Eriksen, Sigurdsson; Soldado.
Predicted Score: Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham (Townsend & Dawson).
