Match Preview – Arsenal (Away) FA Cup North London Derby

Spurs travel to the Emirates for the second time this season in the FA Cup 3rd round to face North London rivals Arsenal it what is sure to he a pulsating game.

This is the sixth meeting between Arsenal and Tottenham in the FA Cup. Arsenal have won three and Spurs two of their previous five meetings. Their last three FA Cup meetings have all been at the Semi Final stage, most recently at Old Trafford in 2001. They met in the Third Round in January 1982 when Spurs won 1-0 at White Hart Lane.

Arsenal have won the Cup 10 times. Only Manchester United have won the competition more times than the Gunners. Spurs have won the competition 8 times. Their most recent FA Cup triumph was in 1991, when they beat Arsenal in the Semi-final at Wembley before beating Nottingham Forest in the final.

Arsenal beat Tottenham 1-0 at Emirates when the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season. This is one of five all Premier League ties in the Third Round. Arsenal have scored 11 goals in their last three matches against Spurs at Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham’s only win in their last 24 league and cup trips to Emirates Stadium/Highbury is their 3-2 comeback win in November 2010 (L15, D8). Arsenal have lifted the Cup 10 times, most recently 2005 and have been runners-up on seven occasions. Tottenham first won the Cup as a Southern League side in 1901, one of eight triumphs – 1987 is their only final defeat.

Injury wise, Spurs have a big list of casualties with Naughton (hamstring), Lamela (hip), Sigurdsson (calf), Paulinho (ankle), Vertonghen (ankle) and Kaboul (quad) all out. Tim Sherwood confirmed today that Emmanuel Adebayor, Jermain Defoe, Andros Townsend and Lewis Holtby are all fit to return. For Arsenal, they have, Bendtner, Giroud, Gibbs and Ramsey all out with Özil facing a late fitness test ahead.

Predicted team: Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Rose; Lennon, Capoue, Dembélé, Eriksen; Adebayor, Soldado.
