Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told reporters that Tottenham Hotspur target James McCarthy is not for sale this summer.
Speaking to reporters on the club’s pre-season tour in Asia, Martinez made a firm comment over the future of his midfielder, who is attracting interest from Spurs and Manchester City.
Martinez said: “He’s not for sale.
“My responsibility is to try to keep bringing competition into the squad.”
Reports yesterday claimed that Tottenham were the favourites for his signature, ahead of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Martinez continued to say: “I think what we have got now is a very strong competition for places and we don’t want to lose that.”
