POOR FORM! Fan favourite Roberto Soldado leaves. Spurs write 31 words in memory

Tottenham-v-Spurs-Roberto-Soldado-pa_3033722Floods of messages have been pouring in for former Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado, as the forward completed a move to Villarreal this week.

Despite only scoring 16 goals for Spurs, Soldado’s passion and grit was enough to win the hearts of the White Hart Lane faithful, who are mostly gutted to see him leave the club.

However, the official club website was hardly aggrieved at his exit, with just barely 2 paragraphs summarising his time at the North London side.

The statement from Spurs read:

Roberto Soldado apologises to fans of “the best club in England”

A4953Villarreal striker Roberto Soldado has released a statement following his exit from Tottenham Hotspur expressing his disappointment at not fulfilling expectations placed on him.

Released on Twitter, Soldado apologised to fans that he did not succeed at Spurs.

“Back to La Liga”, the Spaniard began.

“These two years have been difficult for me, but I wouldn’t change this experience for nothing in the world.

“I am sorry for not being able to meet the expectations that Tottenham had put on me. I felt at home from the first day.”

Completing a move back to sunny Spain, Soldado became the fourth of the club’s ‘magnificent seven’ to depart during this summer window.

Soldado continued: “I can only give many thanks to Tottenham for allowing me to represent the best club in England. Thanks for the elegance and treatment received from all the staff, from my team-mates and the fans, that didn’t stop cheering and supporting me every second I was on the pitch, thanks.

“My family and I take with me great friends this huge personal experience. We will always be a Spurs family.”

Mauricio Pochettino jokes Gareth Bale can “come back” to Tottenham

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino has joked that Real Madrid superstar can return to Tottenham Hotspur as the club “have a place for him.”

Speaking about the troubled winger’s recent struggles on the pitch, the Spurs manager was happy to speculate that the Welshman could return to White Hart Lane.

Pochettino said: “If Bale is not comfortable in Madrid, we have a place for him here. If he wants to come back here we are open to signing him.”

The Spurs boss suggested that Bale’s situation will improve, even drawing comparison to the great Zinedine Zidane.

The Argentine said: “But seriously, it’s not easy when you go to a club like Real Madrid. Bale has the quality to have success.  [French great] Zinedine Zidane had a difficult time at first, when he moved to Madrid in 2001, and he was criticised – but he needed time to adapt.

“It’s easier when you come from Spain to England but maybe when you go to Spain as an English player, you need one or two seasons to adapt.”
